Distribution:
Endemic to Western Ghats. It is frequently observed as a dominant canopy and understory species in ecologically sensitive areas of the northern and central Western
Ghats, such as the Amboli and Chandoli regions in Maharashtra, as well as
the Bhimgad and Shivamogga forests in Karnataka.

Description:
Habit: A small tree growing up to 10 meters in height.
Bark & Branches: The trunk features brown, tubercle bark with a light orange-yellow blaze. Trees are branched with 4-6 profuse stem near the ground. Terminal branchlets
are round, short-internode, and densely hairy when young.
Leaves: Simple, alternate, and leathery coriaceous. They are narrow-elliptic (2.2-8 cm long), have a bluntly acute tip, and feature distinctly thickened, wavy margins.
Flowers: Dioecious (male and female flowers exist on separate trees). Male flowers
grow in clusters of 3, while female flowers are solitary. Both produce small, white
corollas.
Fruits: Produces a small, ellipsoid berry that grows up to 1 cm long and contains 1 to 3 seeds
Uses: 1. Blood Purification: Bark decoctions combined with turmeric and alum are
consumed to purify the blood.
2. Pain & Inflammation: Warm bark poultices are applied directly to swellings, and the bark decoction is taken orally to relieve joint sprains.
3. Oral Health & Burns: The raw fruit is consumed to treat mouth ulcers, and the stems
and leaves are used for general antiseptic purposes.
